DEVLOG APRIL 2026
✦ KixelArt ✦
Hello everyone, Kixel here, and welcome to the launch of the official Vs Holy Quintet website and
Twitter account!!! Alongside the first devlog of the year AND it’s on the website, how exciting!!
Firstly, I know I'm going to sound like a broken record, but thank you to EVERYONE for being so
patient with us, your patience will be rewarded handsomely next month, and for still continuing
to support us at Team HQ after the Demo despite the lack of updates!!
Progress on the mod has been really picking up, especially since December, and we have been steadily
working hard since the Demo. So today, we’d like to showcase SOME things we have in store for Part 1
and future updates!!
Before we actually talk about future content, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the past and
talk about the Funkkast 2 Demo that was released over a year ago (oh god, it's been that long). It’s
still absolutely crazy to me that people are still talking about and playing this mod. From the
bottom of my heart, thank you. The greatest motivation that I and a lot of the team had was
definitely fanart, watching videos of people playing the mod or even the reactions to the trailer,
we appreciate every single one we get.
For the people who've been saying that the leaderboards haven’t been working, yeah, we are aware and
have been for a while. However don't expect any more fixes for the Demo since Part 1 is so close to
come out, and since we switched engines, we've rewritten the code for it.
Comparing everything from the Demo to Part 1 is REALLY funny cause quite literally everything has
changed besides a few small things here and there. From sprites to music to code, it's all changed
and definitely for the better, imo!! Man, I personally cringe everytime I look back at footage of
the Demo and see art like the old GF design and old menu art. The improvement is a sight to behold.
Vs Holy Quintet truly is a time capsule of the improvement from everyone on the team’s skills and
it's been so gratifying seeing the improvements from everyone, especially those who joined years
ago. You’ll definitely be seeing that in the gallery!!
Hopefully Part 1 will feel like a completely new experience with just how much new stuff is changed,
and everyone enjoys it even more than the Demo as we leave it behind in 2024!!
YES, you saw that right on the website, Vs Holy Quintet Part 1 is going to be releasing sometime in
June!!! Currently we are unaware of when exactly, no exact time BUT you will be knowing as we reach
June. Currently our progress with the mod is literally just coding and small assets here and there.
Most of the sprites, ingame bgs, most music and charting are all done!! Final stretch now!!
Our current objective for Part 1 is for a complete foundation technical-wise and artstyle-wise,
which is for all the future updates and making it significantly easier to implement stuff with a
clear direction. This has been the biggest hangup with why Part 1 is taking so long, about 4 years,
since our skills keep changing, we keep wanting to update it. HOWEVER, we have now finalized a LOT
of stuff so future updates will be a lot quicker, and shouldn't take years to complete (fingers
crossed). This includes artstyle, story, mechanics, music style, etc.

“But what’s included in Part 1” you may be asking? WELL, firstly there's going to be 9 songs. 5
songs which make up Week 1 and each magical girl is going to be getting one song each, obviously
telling from the Demo. Alongside this, there’s going to be an original tutorial song to help explain
the new health bar and scoring mechanic. There's also going to be 2 more bonus songs after you
complete story mode, which I won't spoil and you have to wait until release teehee :). Finally ofc
there's a playable version of Stardom, this time with a still image in the bg instead of the trailer
video like in the Demo, and it being easily accessible from the freeplay menu.

Secondly, story mode is being added despite me saying otherwise from the previous devlog. This is
mainly due to us feeling like it won't be a proper release with it locked. We really want this
update to feel like a full release instead of an updated Demo, and hopefully this elevates that
fact! The story mode is just going to be done using dialogue and narration, since cutscenes would
be too time consuming for Part 1. However, this is just going to be for Part 1 and Part
2 will include the cutscenes, and less dialogue. To extinguish any high expectations for the story,
it won't be anything overly complicated or dramatic, taking a more lighthearted tone for this part,
similar to the earlier episodes of Madoka. Regardless, we still hope you enjoy the character
interactions and story!!

Thirdly, we can confirm that Gamejolt integration will be included much like the Demo, and hopefully
working this time (gulp). This means leaderboards will definitely be back, however regarding the
leaderboards from the Demo, all the scores will be reset once Part 1 is out. This is due to new
charts for the previous Demo songs, new scoring system and new engine. (The top players on each
song are going to be in the special thanks however!!) Another feature that we’re also adding is the
achievements, with a large handful to earn!! Very exciting!!

Fourthly, we are adding a gallery, with the music for it teased a while ago!! Within the gallery
you’ll find both concept art from the past 4 years, as well as fanart!! (If you have any fanart,
feel free to send it to me though twitter or discord!)
Fifthly, I mentioned a new gamemode that is coming with Part 1. Is it still happening? Yes! Am I
going to say what it is? Nope! Gotta wait till Part 1 releases to find out what it is!! teehee
Finally, all the chromatics are being changed, and I saved this part for last as it's pretty
serious. Some of you may have noticed, the chromatics are inaccessible anywhere, and that has
been an intentional decision. Not going to go into any details because this community has a bad
habit of making every situation public, but we do not wish to associate with those chromatics
anymore, and are fully replacing them; they will be released alongside Part 1. That is as much
info/detail I will give regarding this situation, and will not be elaborating if asked in dms
or any other places. Therefore, please don't ask anyone on the team about this as well. That
being said, please do not harass the person that I'm referring to, and even Sp0re if you do not
like any of the new chromatics he made. We do not want to harbour that sort of community, and
any “fans” who do that type of shit are not welcome here. This is the one and only time I’ll be
talking about this.
ANYWAYS, bringing this back to a more lighthearted tone, if you wanna know more about sp0re’s
thought process with making the new chromatics then look below!!

Hi, this is my first time writing for a devlog, wow!! Vs. Holy Quintet has undergone SO many
changes since the Demo released, and the music and audio are no exception! Since the Funkkast
Demo in 2024, every playable song from the Demo (excluding Stardom) has undergone some form of
revamp to better fit into the first official release. Nearly every song in the mod, both new
and old, has had several versions made before being finalized, and it’s wonderful to see the
improvement amongst the talented musicians on the team!
Additionally, all of the chromatics in the mod have been resampled and replaced! I tried my
best to ensure these chromatics are suitable replacements for the mod, and maintain the spirit
of the characters as best as possible. If you’ve played the Demo, this will likely be a
noticeable change, so we hope you look forward to it!
Many of my own compositions, alongside those from the other composers, have taken heavy
inspiration from various areas of the Madoka Magica soundtrack. From the instrumentation to
the motifs, this will become more and more apparent as future updates come out, with live
studio mixes of various tracks and other secrets that we can’t quite reveal yet!! We look
forward to revealing the V1 soundtrack soon, and thank you all for supporting Vs. Holy Quintet!

HELLO! This is also my first time writing something for the devlog! There’s one big change
that’s part of this update, and that’s the engine being switched over from Psych Engine to
Codename Engine! Naturally, that meant having to rewrite everything from the ground-up,
which took a lot of time to do. This also includes all of the menus; I wanted to redo them
design-wise, and they went through A LOT of different versions... but I finally landed on
something I liked. Additionally, the native resolution for the mod will run at 1080p, which
will make a lot of visuals much clearer! Lastly, there’ll also be a new mechanic, which will tie
in nicely for more competitive leaderboards scores and such. I honestly don’t have anything
else to say. I've been typing way too much...

This concludes everything for this devlog, with more logs for part 2 soon to come !! The rest
of the devlogs will be posted here on the website, but there will be a post on Twitter
notifying everyone when we post one. Again, thank you to everyone reading this, and hope you
all enjoy Part 1 when it comes out in June!
